Desert Drone is an ongoing Sonoran Desert series created in June 2022 in Tucson, Arizona, focused on experimental art, sound, and sometimes movement. What was once a one off noise show has turned into a continous flow of experimental music throughout Southern Arizona.
Desert Drone has a focus on fostering avant-garde music of all types throughout Arizona with special attention paid to the downtown and 4th avenue areas of Tucson. What was a one time bastion of underground culture we now find culturally bereft. Desert Drone believes there is an overabundance of unique art and music that should be showcased in Tucson and not beholden to the woes of capitalism and gentrification. There is too much emphasis placed on commercial endeavours and the demand to make money off of the backs of musicians and artists while not compensating them for their time, effort, and experience. Desert Drone will never enrichen vultures who profit off the backs of others and we will always take the space we need to do so.
Please know that Desert Drone is a Tucson based community organization, this means we prioritize artists who make themselves known and involve themselves with Desert Drone events and the overall music community. Whether this is showing up on occasion to Desert Drone shows or supporting other artists when they play other local events, we will always prefer the local musician who supports local music. We prefer drone and ambient music, but will sometimes program industrial, noise, glitch, idm, experimental electronics, trip hop, post-rock, doom, and all genres affiliated.
